Roberta Kaplan, 57-58, (also known as Robbie Kaplan) was the primary attorney for E. Jean Carroll in her two defamation cases against Donald Trump. The jury in the second trial recently awarded Carroll $83.3 million in damages — in addition to $5 million in the first trial.
Previously in her legal career, Kaplan successfully argued before the Supreme Court of the United States on behalf of LGBT rights activist Edith Windsor, in United States v. Windsor. It was a landmark decision that required the federal government to recognize same-sex marriages. In 2018, she co-founded the Time’s Up Legal Defense Fund. Kaplan is an open lesbian
