William Goldman (Aug. 12, 1931 – Nov. 16, 2018) was an American novelist, playwright, and screenwriter. He won Academy Awards for his screenplays Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969) and All the President’s Men (1976). His other works include his thriller novel Marathon Man and his cult classic comedy/fantasy novel The Princess Bride, both of which he also adapted for the film versions.
Quotes: “Writing is finally about one thing: going into a room alone and doing it, putting words on paper that have never been there in quite that way before.” | “There’s only three movies I’ve been involved with in my whole life that I really care about. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid was one, and Princess Bride was the second, and Hearts in Atlantis is the third.”
