Triumph the Insult Comic Dog (yes, he’s a Jew, although we don’t know if he had a bris) is the brainpuppy of sock puppeteer Robert Smigel, 59, who is the source of Triumph’s sometimes raspy voice, various unidentifiable accents, and usually raunchy sense of humor. Triumph seemingly pops up — or poops up — everywhere, from entertainment award shows to political rallies, from movie debuts to TV celebrity roasts. He is a regular guest reporter and commentator on Conan O’Brien’s show. Despite his best efforts, Triumph has never quite mastered the fine art of holding a cigar in his mouth.

Quotes: “The Insult Comic Dog made an appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards where he took on some of the heavyweights of the entertainment world of the time. [It] was his interaction with J. Lo that is perhaps one of his finest… and funniest. So much so, in fact, that MTV cut it from repeat airings of the live show. No sense of humor, Jennifer?” — from ign.com
Triumph (sneaking up on Lopez in the audience): “J. Lo, J. Lo, please! J. Lo, please. Let me sniff your butt. Come on! J. Lo! I don’t get it, J. Lo. She doesn’t understand, for a dog it’s like climbing Mount Everest.” — Triumph the Insult Comic Dog
