Robert (Bob) Iger, 71, has been rehired by The Walt Disney Company to be its CEO. Previously, Iger held the same position from 2005 to 2020. His hiring came after Bob Chapek, the man who replaced Iger at the end of his highly successful first stint, was fired by the company’s board of directors. During his initial 15-year stewardship of Disney, Iger broadened the company’s roster of intellectual properties, expanded its presence in international markets, and oversaw an increase of the company’s market capitalization from $48 billion to $257 billion. He is widely regarded as one of the most powerful, pragmatic, and effective leaders in the media industry.

Quote: “No one wants to follow a pessimist… You can be skeptical, you can be realistic, but you can’t be cynical. If your boss is Eeyore, do you want to work with someone like that? Oh, bother.” | “Success can breed all kinds of other behavior[s] and cause companies to behave a certain way that isn’t necessarily the ingredient for achieving more success. For instance, with success comes arrogance, and that’s typically the death of success.”
