Dr. Richard J. Davidson is a 68-year-old, Harvard-trained psychologist and neuroscientist who teaches at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He also is the founder and chair of the Center for Healthy Minds, an organization that asks the following:
“What if our world were a kinder, wiser, more compassionate place? A place where we exercise our minds just like we exercise our bodies? A place where transforming your mind not only improves your own well-being, but cascades to the well-being of others in your community and around the globe?”
Dr. Davidson’s research focuses on methods — meditation, for one — that can improve the health of the human mind. He discusses the topic in the TedTalk linked below.
Quote: “When mindfulness is combined with cognitive therapy, one of the things we see is people being trained to regard their thoughts as just thoughts and not to get ensnared by them.”
