Rep. Adam Schiff (D.-Calif.) has announced his candidacy to fill the Senate seat held by Diane Feinstein (D.-Calif.) since 1992. Feinstein, who also is Jewish, has announced she will not run again when her current term expires in 2024. Schiff, who represents California’s 30th congressional district, was first elected to the House in 2000. Until Republicans took over the lower legislative body following the 2022 midterms, he chaired the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. He also played a key role in the two impeachments of then-President Donald J. Trump.

Quote: “We’re in the fight of our lives for the future of our country,” Schiff said. “Our democracy is under assault from MAGA extremists, who care only about gaining power and keeping it. And our economy is simply not working for millions of Americans, who are working harder than ever just to get by.” | “While our country has made great strides in breaking down the barriers which for so long denied equal opportunity to all Americans, we are not yet the beautiful symphony of brotherhood of Dr. King’s dream.”
