Paul Kolker is a renowned, New York-based contemporary artist who continues to create extraordinary large-scale abstract pieces at age 84. If that weren’t enough, he worked as a cardiothoracic surgeon for decades before retiring from the practice of medicine. And if that weren’t enough, he’s also an attorney with a special interest in the intersection of medicine and the law. Kolker’s artwork has appeared in more than 70 solo exhibitions.
Quote: “One becomes a better surgeon when one uses the disciplines of the art. The visual arts and performing arts and literary arts all evoke emotion, and I think it’s good to emote as a surgeon. I think one becomes a better surgeon if one shares emotion and concern for a patient.”
