UPDATE: On Nov. 27, Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, considered the main mastermind of Iran’s clandestine nuclear weapons program, was assassinated near Tehran. Although there has been widespread speculation that Israel carried out the killing, the Jewish state has neither confirmed nor denied involvement as of this writing. Iranian leaders, for their part, have said they’re convinced Israel was behind the event and have vowed revenge.
According to The New York Times, Abu Muhammad Al-Masri — real name Abdullah Ahmed Abdullah — the second-in-command in Al Qaeda, was shot dead by Israeli agents on a Teheran street in August 2020. The assassination of the 57-year-old terrorist mastermind, which reportedly was carried out at the behest of the U.S., became public knowledge only recently. Al-Masri was responsible for the deaths of hundreds of people in terrorist attacks. For its part, the Iranian regime has denied the report in The Times.
Quote: “Long featured on the F.B.I.’s Most Wanted Terrorist list, he had been indicted in the United States for crimes related to the bombings of the U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, which killed 224 people and wounded hundreds. The F.B.I. offered a $10 million reward for information leading to his capture, and as of Friday, his picture was still on the Most Wanted list.”
