Nita Lowey: Ranking Dem on the House Appropriations Committee

Since 1988, Rep. Nita Lowey (D-NY) has represented the U.S. Congressional district that includes the northern suburbs of New York City and most of Westchester County. She is the ranking Democratic member of the House Appropriations Committee and a member of several Congressional subcommittees. The now 80 year old served as the first female chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (2001—2002). One of her main causes is support for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting; Sesame Street characters Bert and Ernie accompanied her at a congressional hearing on the topic. Source: Wikipedia
