When the topic of environmental pollution comes up, used toothpaste tubes generally aren’t mentioned. But if you consider there are more than 7 billion people on our planet, most of whom go through several tubes of toothpaste per year, the connection doesn’t seem that far-fetched. That’s something Canadian Mike Medicoff — co-founder, along with Damien Vince, of Change Toothpaste — realized and decided to do something about. The result: a toothpaste that comes in tablet form inside a pouch. Unlike toothpaste tubes — estimated to take 500 years to decompose in landfills — the Change Toothpaste pouch is biodegradable and can be composted. In short, no-waste toothpaste!
Quote: “When we learned about how the simple act of brushing your teeth and tossing that tube in the garbage contributed to our global plastic problem, we knew we had to act. This is the small way we’ve chosen to educate about plastic pollution, and hopefully leave the planet in better condition that my kids found it.”
