Südhof for their “discoveries of machinery regulating vesicle traffic, a major transport system in our cells.” Shekman was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 1992. He is on the faculty of the University of California, Berkeley.
Quotes: “I got into science because I thought that, with inspiration and hard work, I could figure out how life works.” | “The night before the Nobel announcement every year, I’ve gone to bed feeling quite anxious. I was optimistic, and also I knew it might never happen.”
