Cass Elliott (September 19, 1941 – July 29, 1974), sometimes known professionally as Mama Cass Elliott, was a singer and voice actress. She was a member of the singing group the Mamas & the Papas. After the group broke up, Elliot released five solo albums. In 1998, she was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for her work with the Mamas & the Papas. Elliott died in her sleep at age 32 of a heart attack — not from choking on a sandwich, as urban legend would have it.

Quote: When you’re famous, you don’t get to meet people because they want you to like them when the present themselves to you, and you don’t see the real people. ||| “I’ve been fat since I was seven, and being fat sets you apart.” ||| “When you’re on stage, you gotta do it. People pay to see you, and they deserve to be entertained, and you should go out there and really give it your best shot. And that’s quite a challenge.”
