Billionaire brothers Leonard (pictured, left) and Ronald Lauder — sons of legendary businesswoman Estée Lauder — and their children have donated a combined US$200 million to the Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation to accelerate research and drug development into the prevention and treatment of the disease. (The brothers founded the organization.) The donation is being given on the heels of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration first approvals of Alzheimer drugs for use in humans, and on the cusp of new results that could lead to approval of a third drug.

Quotes: “To be a great leader, you firstly have to like people. If you don’t like people, at the end of the day they will figure this out and you can’t lead them too well.” | “The best advice I ever got came from my mother, Estée Lauder: She believed that if you had something good to say, you should put it in writing. But if you had something bad to say, you should tell the person to his or her face.”
