Lenore “Lee” Krasner (October 27, 1908 – June 19, 1984) is sometimes identified as the wife of pioneering abstract expressionist painter Jackson Pollack -– which is unfortunate, since she was an extremely talented artist in her own right. Her paintings have been exhibited in numerous art museums; New York’s Museum of Modern art held a retrospective of her work. A number of Krasner’s paintings have sold for millions of dollars.
Quote: “With Jackson there was quiet solitude. Just to sit and look at the landscape. An inner quietness. After dinner, to sit on the back porch and look at the light. No need for talking. For any kind of communication.” | “People were very affected by the war. But it didn’t mean you stopped painting unless you were called into the Army; then you just couldn’t paint. But otherwise one continued.”
