Harvard University has elected lawyer and economist Lawrence S. Bacow as the prestigious institution’s 29th president; he’ll take over the office on July 1, 2018. Previously, Bacow was a professor and chancellor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for more than two decades; he also served as Tufts University president for a decade. He received his J.D. and Ph.D. from Harvard. Said Bacow of his alma mater: “It was here I learned that I was a teacher at heart. It was here I discovered that I wanted to devote my life to scholarship.”
