Julie Schumer is an abstract expressionist painter who works out of her studio in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Although always passionate about art, she took an extended career detour after becoming an attorney. In 2000, at the urging of longtime friend and artist James Koskinas, Schumer got back on track to creating art full-time. Her paintings have been exhibited in the United States and Europe.
Quote: “It’s a really fabulous experience to me to have the feeling of dragging paint across a surface, with whatever tool I’m using to drag it with. I think paint is a really sensuous thing. In fact, I think it was so sensuous that when I was very young and in kindergarten, I painted my entire body with Kelly green tempera paint one day in school.”
