Jerry Lewis (March 16, 1926 — August 20, 2017) was in the pantheon of legendary American comedy performers: During his decades-long career, he was a comedian, actor, singer and dancer, as well as a movie producer, director and screenwriter. (See him dance in the movie Living It Up, pictured above and linked below.) From 1948 to 1956, he was half of the hugely popular comedy team of [Dean] Martin and Lewis. He was also well known for his work on behalf of finding a cure for muscular dystrophy; as part of that effort, he hosted the annual Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon for 44 years. Lewis was presented with many awards during his show business career, including from the American Comedy Awards, Los Angeles Film Critics Association, Venice Film Festival and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
