Michael Ben Zikri (45 at his death) was an Israeli Jew who rescued a Bedouin Arab family from a sinkhole in a lake south of Ashkelon. Ben Zikri — himself a father of three — saved three children and their aunt. Tragically, he drowned in the process of effecting the rescue. His sacrifice has drawn heartfelt accolades in the Arab world.
