The mission of the Israeli Beresheet lunar lander came to a disappointing end when the spacecraft, after entering orbit around our closest celestial neighbor, crash-landed on the surface of the Moon on April 12. Beresheet was built by private company SpaceIL and launched atop a SpaceX Falcon rocket. Its indirect journey to the Moon lasted some seven weeks.
Quote: “If at first you don’t succeed, you try and try again — and we’ll try again. We reached the moon, but we wanted to land more safely. The attempt alone is a huge achievement. An Israeli satellite will one day land on the moon.” — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu
