Fashion designer Isaac Mizrahi, 55, was born in Brooklyn, New York, to a family of observant Syrian Jews. He studied at the Yeshivah of Flatbush, the High School of Performing Arts and Parsons School of Design. Mizrahi’s clothing lines have been sold — sometimes with mixed commercial results — through Bloomingdales, Target, Liz Claiborne and QVC, among others. In 2011, Xcel Brands, Inc. bought Mizrahi’s brand; he remains its creative director. In addition, Mizrahi is a singer and actor. He appears frequently on television (he had his own shows on the Style Network and Oxygen) and occasionally in movies. Mizrahi is openly gay.
