Harvey Korman (Feb. 15, 1927 — May 29, 2008) was a television and movie actor and comedian. He is perhaps best known as a regular cast member on The Carol Burnett Show, which ran for 11 seasons. Korman brought to life many hilarious characters on the show’s comedy sketches — one of the most beloved being Mother Marcus, a Yiddish accented, very bosomy lady with an opinion on just about everything. The character undoubtedly would not be considered PC — on a number of bases — these days, but it was a different era back then.
Quote: “You asked what is the secret of a really good sketch. And it is a sketch is a small play. It’s got a beginning, and a middle, and an end. It should have a plot; it should have the characters, conflict. It is a little play. And in it, will be funny stuff.” | “I wish there was something that — I get all those wonderful letters and wonderful acknowledgments, and I wish I could be more appreciative of what I do. But it’s hard for me.”
