Journalist Gayle Tzemach Lemmon, born in 1973, wrote Ashley’s War: The Untold Story of a Team of Women Soldiers on the Special Ops Battlefield (2015) and The Dressmaker of Khair Khana (2011), both of which were on the The New York Times best-seller list. Her book Ashley’s War is being turned into a feature film staring Reese Witherspoon. The Dressmaker is about an Afghan woman who, against all odds, became an entrepreneur under Taliban rule.
Quote: “The lessons I learned from my mother and her friends have guided me through death, birth, loss, love, failure, and achievement, on to a Fulbright scholarship and Harvard Business School. They taught me to believe that anything was possible. They have proven to be the strongest family values I could ever have imagined.”
