Dean Kremer (pronounced KRAY-mer) is a 27-year-old Israeli–American pitcher for the Baltimore Orioles. (Both his parents are Israeli.) He made his MLB debut in September 2020. Previously, Kremer pitched for the Team USA baseball team in the 2013 Maccabiah Games in Israel, winning a gold medal. Members of Kremer’s extended family live in Israel, a fact that undoubtedly weighs on him when he stands on the pitcher’s mound these days. He wears a visible Star of David necklace when he plays

He told ESPN that his family members, many of whom have served in the Israeli army, are safe. Orioles manager Brandon Hyde spoke with Kremer on Monday. “Gave him my support and sympathies for him and his family that’s involved, and he seemed OK,” Hyde told ESPN. “Obviously, he’s very disturbed and there’s a lot of things going on.
