// Daniel L. Doctoroff: Michael Bloomberg’s Former Deputy Mayor Is Raising $250 Million for ALS Research

Daniel L. Doctoroff, 65, is a businessman and former government official. From 2015 to 2021, he served as chief executive officer of Sidewalk Labs, a startup company he helped found that focused on technology for city life. Previously, he was the CEO and president of Bloomberg L.P. Also, he was deputy mayor for economic development and rebuilding for New York City under Mayor Mike Bloomberg from January 2002 – December 31, 2007. In December 2021, Doctoroff announced he likely had ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as motor neuron disease (MND), or Lou Gehrig’s disease) at the age of 63. The diagnosis was later confirmed. (His father and uncle died from ALS.) He has since worked to raise a quarter-million dollars for research into the disease.
