Longtime writer Calvin Trillin, now 82, certainly fits in this section of AmazingJews — but he could just as easily go into the Hilarious Jews section. He is especially known for his excellent sense of humor, which he has attributed to being a Jew. His book Quite Enough of Calvin Trillin: Forty Years of Funny Stuff, published in 2012, garnered him a Thurber Prize for American Humor. Trillin’s other books include: American Fried; Alice, Let’s Eat and Third Helpings (food has been a major focus of his writing). Messages from My Father explained how Trillin’s dad “always expected his son to be a Jew, but had primarily ‘raised me to be an American.’”
