Twenty-five years ago, attorneys Barry Scheck (left) and Peter Neufeld (both now 67) founded the Innocence Project, a nonprofit legal organization dedicated to exonerating convicts who were wrongly convicted of serious crimes in the U.S. As of March 2016, the project accomplished that in 350 cases – with 20 of those prisoners having previously been sentenced to death. Of the total number, 307 prisoners were freed because of DNA evidence. In addition, the project has succeeded in uncovering the true perpetrators in more than 100 crimes. Source: Wikipedia
