TIKKUN OLAM is Hebrew for “repairing the world.” It is an important concept in Judaism: Human beings must strive to make the world a better, more just place.
Dr. Arthur Hinton “Art” Rosenfeld (1926 – 2017) was a vocal advocate for energy efficiency and conservation long before the cause became popular. Rosenfeld earned a doctorate in physics at the University of Chicago and taught the subject at the University of California, Berkeley. He was energy commissioner for the State of California from 2000 to 2010; previously, he was Senior Advisor to the U.S. Department of Energy during the Clinton Administration. Rosenfeld — who also championed the fight against global warming — famously said, “When energy is cheap as dirt, you treat it like dirt.”
