On February 13, 2024, Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives voted to impeach Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, 64, allegedly for failing to adequately address the illegal immigration issue at the U.S.-Mexico border. The move was widely seen as politically motivated.
The U.S. Senate voted through a point of order that the charges were unconstitutional and moot on April 17, 2024 by a vote of 51–48−1 on Article I and 51–49 on Article II of the impeachment. Afterwards, the trial was adjourned in a 51–49 vote.
Mayorkas was born to a Jewish family in Havana, Cuba.

And therefore, we must identify and root out any domestic violent extremism within our own ranks.” | “A crisis is when a nation is willing to rip a nine-year-old child out of the hands of his or her parent and separate that family to deter future migration.”
