We featured Ady Barkan, 36, in this space in October 2019. At the time, it appeared that the healthcare activist suffering from the debilitating and deadly disease ALS had only a very short time to live. The good news is that he’s still alive and carrying on his fight on behalf of healthcare for all Americans; the bad news is that his condition has continued to deteriorate. Nevertheless, he delivered a powerful and moving message at the 2020 Democratic National Convention — withe the aid of a computer-generated voice. The not-to-miss video is linked below.
Quote: “It’s exhausting and overwhelming, for me, ALS has been a lesson in exactly how broken our health care system is and why it’s so important to fix it.” | “Senator, since my diagnosis, I have been thinking a lot about my legacy, i’m curious, what do you want your legacy to be after you eventually exit the stage of national politics ? How do you want to be remembered?”
