A point of pride for the Jewish people has long been that a hugely disproportionate number of Jews have garnered Nobel Prizes. It is estimated that more than 20% of prize winners have been Jews — extraordinary considering that Jews comprise about 0.1% of the world’s population and 2% of the U.S. population.
The trend continues: More Jews won Nobel Prizes in the 2020 season:
— Paul Milgrom (together with Joe Wilson) for the prize in Economics
— Harvey J. Alter (together with Michael Houghton and Charles M. Rice) for the prize in Physiology or Medicine
— Roger Penrose (Jewish mother) and Andrea Ghez (Jewish father) (together with Reinhard Genzel) for the prize in Physics
— Louise Glück for the prize in Literature
